John R. Taylor has served Franklin Switzerland since 1973 in various roles, including Trustee and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. In professional life, Mr. Taylor has over 30 years of experience in foreign exchange and related fixed-income markets. He is recognized as an expert in the management of foreign exchange and a pioneer in the analysis of cyclicality of foreign exchange and interest rate markets. Frequently interviewed and quoted by the media, Mr.Taylor is an accomplished public speaker.
In recognition of his many years of active support, Franklin Switzerland awarded him the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa, in May, 2009. Mr. Taylor has been an enthusiastic supporter of the project to offer graduate studies in Management at Franklin since this idea was incorporated into the University's strategic plan in 2006. He financed the launch of the Taylor Institute.
Sheik Hussein A. Al-Banawi, who is an alumnus of Franklin Switzerland, is Chairman and CEO of Banawi Industrial Group, Saudi Arabia. B.I.G is a manufacturing company that produces adhesives, packaging, and food flavors, among many other products, with activities throughout the Middle East and Africa. Sheik Al-Banawi is the founder of the Chair in Islamic Economics, Finance, and Management at Rice University in Houston, Texas, and a member of the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee of the World Waqf Foundation of the Islamic Development Bank. He also serves on the boards of various civic organizations.
Charles C. Adams, Jr., is firm-wide head of international arbitration practice and partner-in-charge of the Geneva office of Akin Gump, a leading international law firm. In addition to representing multinational corporations, sovereign governments, parastatal entities, and NGOs as claimants or respondents in international arbitration proceedings worldwide, Mr. Adams also advises on major contract negotiations for infrastructure and development projects and concession agreements for extractive industries. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Dubai Centre for International Arbitration, a consultant to the former United Nations Centre on Transnational Corporations, and a frequent lecturer at the International Development Law Institute and other universities. A former U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in East Africa, he remains active in various humanitarian and philanthropic organizations in Europe and Africa, having served on the Board of the International League for Human Rights and as President of the International Center for Humanitarian Reporting. He is a member of the National Advisory Board of the Democratic National Committee.
Robert Oddy, former CEO of ED&F Man Holdings Ltd. and former Director of Man Group PLC, was on the Board of the centuries-old commodity trading firm when it expanded into financial services to form the Man Group, today one of the leading managers of hedge funds and alternative investments.
Jeff H. Selig, formerly an Executive Vice President of Commercial Metals Company, is an independent consultant and investor/operator in process-oriented business. Active as a social entrepreneur, advising start-ups, turn-arounds, and youth organizations, he also serves on the governing boards for several academic institutions, including the Board of Visitors of the University of South Carolina, Columbia College, and the University of Texas IP-2 Program.
Manfred Tuerks is Senior Partner and member of the Board of Directors of AT Kearney AG, Zurich; member of the Advisory Board of TC First Holdings (a private equity fund); and member of the CIBAM Advisory Board at Cambridge Judge School of Business. He has extensive experience in strategy consulting, particularly in the manufacturing and automotive industries.
