Alberto Monti is an Adjunct Professor and member of the Art, Science and Knowledge (ASK) Center at Bocconi University, Milano (Italy). From 2007-2009, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Stephen Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. His research focuses on the relationship between social identity and social networks in organizations, in particular on the mechanisms through which organizational identification and informal social relationships affect individuals’ attitudes and behaviors such as knowledge sharing, cooperation and strategic decision making. His works have been published in Research in the Sociology of Organizations, Management Decisions and the Academy of Management Best Paper Proceedings. He has taught classes in Decision Making and Negotiations, as well as in Organization Theory and Behaviors at undergraduate, graduate and MBA levels in different Institutions.
Before joining academia, Alberto managed his family’s business, planning and implementing a generational change after a discontinuity crisis, and developing a five year strategic plan to transform the family business from a mere importer and distributer of codfish and stockfish to an international company in food processing. He is also continuously involved in the private sector as an expert for applied research and consultant projects in companies ranging from the automotive to the manufacturing to the design industries.

A current project investigates the determinants of knowledge exchange and leadership behaviors and their performance consequences at the individual, group and division level. Another project explores the role of narrative identity work in serial entrepreneurship in a cultural setting as a means to secure legitimacy and resources for different new ventures.
Professor Monti is an expert in designing engagement surveys and mapping informal social relationships within organizations.
