Dear Franklin Community,

In this week’s update, a few reminders about campus-wide safety protocols and an update on in-classroom attendance as well as final exams.

First, many thanks to all those of you who signed up for the u-Smell-it initiative. If you haven’t done so already, please input the personalized id that you received via email from Leslie Tedoldi. Once you have done so, you can do the smell tests daily. In addition to helping keep our community safe, you will be helping others in the Global South. For every test that we take in the Franklin community, the u-Smell-it company will donate a free test to a similar initiative in São Paulo, Brazil. Your participation matters, and we want to do everything we can to avoid any infections on campus. If you have questions about how to participate or about the initiative, please check the Moodle site for more information. In addition to doing the daily card testing, please remember to wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth, social distance, and wash your hands!

We expect an update on in-person classroom learning from the confederation this week. We will contact you as soon as we know more. In the meantime, please remember that we are planning for in-person exams where possible. Students, if you are currently on campus, you should plan to remain here through the final exam period. As a reminder, exams begin Wednesday, May 5 and end Tuesday, May 11, 2021. We have also two scheduled reading days on Monday, May 3 and Tuesday, May 4 so that seniors have dedicated time for thesis presentations and defenses.

On Wednesday, April 14, there is a mandatory senior class meeting as well as pre-travel Academic Travel meetings for Fall 2021. Please check your email for details. And make sure to tune into our livestream Topping Out ceremony to celebrate our progress on the Phase 3 construction Saturday, April 17. The link will be shared later this week.
