The Lugano Sustainability Series: 2nd Edition
The next edition of the Lugano Sustainability Series is dedicated to exploring the question of how to build an inclusive and just ecological transition.
The Lugano Sustainability Series is a series of free meetings open to the public, born from the collaboration between the City of Lugano (as part of the Social Affairs Division's #LuganoSostenibile project), the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), the University of Southern Switzerland (USI), Franklin Switzerland (FUS), and the Quartiere Maghetti district.
The initiative aims to offer citizens opportunities for in-depth discussion on key issues of environmental, social, and economic sustainability, promoting a culture of participation and shared responsibility. The collaboration between the partners stems from the shared desire to promote sustainable development in the region and strengthen dialogue between institutions, academia, and the population.
Sustainability represents a challenge that involves the entire society, from institutions to academia and businesses, and requires shared action to generate concrete and lasting results. The second event of the series will be held on Monday, September 7, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., in the Sala San Rocco in the Quartiere Maghetti district.
The meeting, entitled "How to build an inclusive and just ecological transition together?", will reflect on the fundamental role of trust and participation in the path to sustainability. The success of the ecological transition also depends on the ability to engage people, build trust, and make them feel like protagonists of change. Ludovico Giacomo Conti (USI), Alessandro Fontana (SUPSI), Mario Schultz (Franklin Switzerland), and Jody Trinkler (City of Lugano) will explore this topic in greater depth, bringing complementary perspectives from the academic and institutional worlds.
The presentations will be followed by a roundtable discussion and a dialogue with the audience, offering participants the opportunity to discuss the issues raised during the evening. The debate will focus specifically on how to strengthen trust, foster public involvement, and contribute to a just and inclusive ecological transition. The evening will conclude with refreshments.
With The Lugano Sustainability Series, the partners intend to create a permanent space for dialogue and awareness, offering tools for understanding and opportunities for discussion on the challenges of sustainability, in the belief that change requires collaboration among all local stakeholders.
