In an era where the flow of information is nonstop and its influence on society is immeasurable, understanding the dynamics of news, media analysis, and media monitoring has never been more crucial. In Carlo Del Bo’s lecture, he informed the Franklin community about the rapidly advancing world of data privacy by providing insights from his unique career experience. As the current International Security Advisor for several prestigious Italian and American groups, Carlo's journey through the world of security and intelligence is very inspiring and we were so lucky to hear his insight.

Carlo's academic journey began at Northeastern University in Boston, where he studied Criminal Justice. He furthered his education with a Master's in Security Management from Bocconi University in Milan and a Master's in Business Intelligence from Link Campus in Rome, equipping him with a unique skill set tailored to the challenges of security and intelligence in the digital age.

His professional career started in 1988 under the mentorship of the Director of Security at the Montedison-Ferruzzi Group, where he spent nine years in the chemical and pharmaceutical sector. This experience laid the groundwork for his role as the Director of Security at Gucci NV Group from 1999 to 2007, where he introduced innovative security strategies to the fashion industry. Carlo established his own strategy consulting company in Switzerland, offering technology consulting and security services to clients. He later joined Nokia in 2012 as the HSS Security Manager.

In 2016, Carlo joined Axon as the Business Development Manager, contributing significantly to the company's expansion into over 100 countries and partnerships with 18,000 police forces globally. In 2022, he assumed the role of director at Volocom, a leading tech company specializing in News Intelligence and Media Monitoring.

Volocom has been instrumental in providing cutting-edge technological solutions to major Italian and Swiss institutions. By navigating the complexities of modern information landscapes and adhering to ethical principles, Volcom, his company, strives to safeguard the reputations and privacy of its clients while promoting transparency and accountability in the digital age.

Carlo Del Bo's expertise provided the audience with the opportunity to gain insights on the intersection of security, technology, and media intelligence all while tying pieces of his background experience in. By giving precise examples from his clients, he explained these ideas with real-life examples. For instance, in the case of Ferrero, diligently protecting the coveted Nutella recipe, or Ferrari meticulously guarding its mechanical secrets. These examples illustrate the pivotal role that data monitoring plays in preventing intellectual property theft and preserving competitive advantage.

Moreover, the lecture also brought insights into the interconnectedness of social engineering and cybersecurity attacks and highlighted the importance of privacy protection measures, with the increasing frequency of Cyber attackers exploiting individuals' personal information from social media. Carlo has taught us so much and we will cherish his talk and take it into our daily lives to help us be more aware consumers in our technology-driven society.
