The Green Office at Franklin University Switzerland held the Earth Day Summit on Friday and Saturday, April 21-22, 2023. The Earth Day Summit brought together a wide diversity of over 30 academic and community thought leaders to address the interconnectedness we share that explains why sustainability is a mutual goal. The weekend emphasized the unique connections we all have to each other and to our planet.
The #LUGANOSOSTENIBILE initiative, a year-long event promoted by the City of Lugano, was also launched. Through this exciting opportunity, interested local participants can test their own way of living by joining a series of challenges over twelve sustainability-related domains. This initiative will help build a community with more sustainable lifestyles by gradually changing individual daily habits. The competition is open to all citizens and residents of Lugano and municipalities in the Lugano area, beginning in April 2023 and ending in March 2024. Every month of the year, a theme linked to sustainability will be proposed and explored, from mobility to waste, responsible tourism to water usage. Participants are invited to share the small daily gestures that make their lives more sustainable via social media. Each month, the name of the winner will be drawn randomly, followed by a big drawing at the end of the competition for the final prize. Franklin University Switzerland community members, including faculty, staff, and students, plan to participate in this endeavor by adhering to these monthly sustainable challenges and actively joining the competition. In keeping with the values and priorities of the FUS Green Office, this initiative is a perfect way to improve our goal of keeping Lugano a healthy, beautiful, and sustainable city.
