Franklin announces the creation of the Tim Darrin ’74 Scholarship Fund
Franklin University Switzerland is honored to announce the establishment of the Tim Darrin ’74 Scholarship Fund, an endowed scholarship made possible through the vision and generosity of the KHR McNeely Family Foundation and the Margaret A. Darrin Charitable Trust.
The fund launches with initial gifts of $250,000 from each donor, totaling $500,000, and is envisioned to grow to $1 million. To inspire additional support from the Franklin community, the Margaret A. Darrin Charitable Trust has introduced a matching challenge: from now until July 31, 2026, all contributions beyond the initial $500,000 will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to an additional $250,000.
“We are humbled by this extraordinary act of generosity,” said President Samuel Martín-Barbero. “Tim Darrin’s legacy will now be part of Franklin’s future, ensuring that deserving students can pursue a transformative education regardless of their financial circumstances.”
Honoring the life of Tim Darrin ’74
This scholarship honors the memory of Tim Darrin, Class of 1974 — a beloved Franklin alumnus and former trustee remembered for his warm friendships, adventurous spirit, and lifelong passion for international understanding and education. After his years at Franklin, Tim remained a dedicated global citizen and advocate for civic engagement and cultural exploration.
The fund will be held in perpetuity, and once vested, its returns will provide limited scholarships to undergraduate students, with a focus on expanding access to international education. It will support students who reflect Tim’s values and are eager to make their mark on the world — just as he did.
A legacy of generosity
Kevin McNeely ’73, President and CEO of the KHR McNeely Family Foundation, shared:
“We are honored to support this scholarship in memory of our dear friend Tim Darrin, whose life reflected the very best of a global liberal arts education. Our foundation believes deeply in the transformative power of international learning, and we’re proud to help ensure that students from all backgrounds can access the kind of life-changing experiences that shaped Tim’s spirited journey.”
The Darrin family also emphasized the spirit behind their commitment:
“Tim cared deeply about people, community, and the possibilities that arise when education transcends borders. We are thrilled to celebrate his legacy through this scholarship and to encourage others to join us in this effort. Through our matching challenge, we hope to amplify the impact of every gift and help future generations of students discover their potential at Franklin.”
Franklin extends its deepest gratitude to the Darrin and McNeely families whose generosity will impact students for generations — ensuring that Tim’s spirit remains alive on campus and beyond.
