Do you ever wish you could join Franklin students on Academic Travel to experience their adventures? See their travels with your own eyes? Well, prepare yourself to be entertained!

Freshman Antonia Magallanes Sachot '25 was recently on this Spring '22 Academic Travel and has video-documented her trip while venturing and exploring two fascinating cities in Italy: Bologna and Rome. Alongside Professor Giulia Miniero, she took part in the BUS 236T Marketing for Movies course, learning about artistic productions and institutions, techniques used to promote films, movie consumer needs and mindsets, and more. Each Academic Travel is an experiential learning tool completely integrated into a semester-long course, divided into on-campus classes and a 10-day to two-week travel period. It also represents the single most distinctive element of the Franklin curriculum and is offered across all undergraduate majors.

While in Bologna, Antonia and her class toured the Cineteca. Here, they visited a special exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Pier Paolo Pasolini, a successful Italian film director and writer. In addition, they attended a private projection of early 1900s silent comedy films accompanied by piano and violin, "The Scarecrow" by Buster Keaton and Eddie Cline, and the "The Vagabond" by Charles Chaplin. Last but not least, they also attended a lecture on the Italian film industry with Professor Marco Cucco from the Università di Bologna.

Aside from the academic aspect of this travel to Bologna, Antonia and her classmates had the opportunity to explore main attractions, taste the local cuisine, visit shops and boutiques, and admire monuments and the architecture of the city center.

"This Vlog shows both learning and fun components of the travel and is a realistic representation of what Academic Travel really represents, which has never really been shown but mostly only written about. I hope you enjoy watching and learning more as much as I enjoyed filming and making this! This travel was absolutely amazing, I’ll never forget it!" commented Antonia.
