Professor Emerita Dr. Sanja Dudukovic

In memoriam – October 12, 2026

The Franklin community has expressed an outpouring of affection and a heartfelt desire to remember and honor Professor Emerita Dr. Sanja Dudukovic and the profound impact she had on campus. In response, Franklin Switzerland is creating this space for alumni, students, faculty, colleagues, and friends to come together to celebrate her life, share their memories, and reflect on the lasting legacy she leaves behind.

For more than three decades, Professor Dudukovic was an integral part of Franklin. She joined the University in 1991 as a part-time Professor of Statistics and became a full-time Professor of Quantitative Methods in 1997. Until her retirement in 2021, she devoted herself to teaching, research, and mentoring generations of students. She was then awarded the title of Professor Emerita in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the University.

Originally from Belgrade, Professor Dudukovic brought a wealth of scientific knowledge and research experience to Franklin. Her teaching spanned Statistics, Quantitative Methods, Management Science, Management Information Systems, Business Analytics, and Machine Learning. An accomplished scholar, she published extensively on statistical modeling, financial markets, and forecasting, and remained active in research long after her retirement.

Her impact, however, extended far beyond her academic achievements. As founder and director of Franklin’s Center for Quantitative Research, she championed undergraduate research and encouraged students to engage deeply with complex questions and real-world challenges. Her commitment to teaching excellence was recognized with Franklin’s Faculty Excellence Award for Teaching in 2006, 2011, and 2012.

In a Spring 2023 interview with The Franklin Gazette, Professor Dudukovic reflected on what she considered her greatest academic accomplishment:

“I genuinely believe that the engagement of undergraduate students in research promotes the most potent form of curriculum.”

These words capture the spirit of her approach to education and the intellectual curiosity, independence, and rigor she inspired in her students.

Sanja was part of Franklin’s story for more than thirty years. Her influence lives on in the students she taught, the colleagues she worked alongside, and the many members of the community whose lives she touched.

Shared Memories

“I was fortunate to take several of Professor Dudukovic’s courses in the early 2000s. They were among the most challenging I have ever taken, and equally among the most rewarding. She knew her students were capable of more, and she pushed us to think differently about research and to take on difficult problems. That challenge, combined with her patient support as each of us found our own path, made her teaching invaluable. I don’t recall a classmate who didn’t benefit from it or hold her in high regard, and I think we all remember the warm grin she gave whenever one of us finally figured something out.”
