Welcome to Franklin University Switzerland! The Fall 2021 semester is about to begin. The Franklin staff and faculty are in trepidation as they prepare for new and returning students' arrival, and have compiled a short guide of useful info and activities to help everyone navigate through the first week of classes.
Classes begin on Monday, August 23, as scheduled and Franklin will finally be resuming in-person classes! Although social distancing continues, Franklin's international family will soon be able to reunite, meet face to face, and experience the many learning opportunities of the Franklin curriculum in presence.
Academic Travel 2021
Fall 2021 Academic Travel is scheduled to begin in October. All groups will be traveling as planned within Europe and all students traveling outside of Switzerland are required to show proof of full vaccination. More details on vaccination can be found here. Please know that Franklin is doing it's very best to balance student and faculty safety, while protecting the integrity of the Academic Travel experience. As always, the Franklin professors are going above and beyond to make this experience memorable, meaningful, and enriching.
Get your Textbooks Online
Visit Franklin's Online Store to purchase essential items for classes this semester: textbooks for Fall 2021 courses, stationary, backpacks and more. While there, be sure to fill out your wardrobe and show your school spirit by picking up some Franklin gear!
To help ensure the safety of the Franklin community, several safety precautions have been implemented. This includes the frequent and rigorous cleaning of common areas and classrooms, numerous stations for hands disinfection - please make good use of them - and indications for keeping a distance of 1.5 meters from others. It is incredibly important to follow these directions while on campus, and make them a common practice even off campus.
Masks are still required in the indoor common areas and where social distancing cannot be observed effectively outdoors. For purposes of sustainability, students are encouraged to bring at least one mask, and ideally these should be reusable/washable. The environment is precious, so please make sure to dispose masks correctly.
Swiss COVID Certificate App
Switzerland launched the COVID Certificate App (COVIDcert App) to document when an individual has been vaccinated for COVID-19, recovered from COVID-19, or has a negative Swiss COVID test result. Students should download the Swiss COVIDCert App from iTunes or Google Play. Those vaccinated outside of Switzerland can obtain a Swiss COVID Certificate with a QR code by following the instructions on this site.
The Swiss COVID App
Download the Swisscovid app (for Android or iPhone) for your safety and those around you. The download is now mandatory for all staff, teachers, and students to trace contact within the Franklin campus. Details are explained in this short video.
Student Activities, Engagement and the Franklin App
The Office of Student Life is excited to support students in designing their Franklin experience, by providing a variety of fun activities, events, and programs. To keep up to date with all that Franklin has to offer, students should download the Franklin App (for Android or iPhone). On it you can view invitations and details to an array of opportunities to engage with Franklin and the local community.
Tone Athletic Center (TAC)
Per federal guidelines, the TAC will be open following Swiss COVID health and safety measures. Where possible and in compliance with those guidelines, excursions, outdoor courses, and activities, will also be offered to the Franklin community members. Practicing sports and enjoying a good time together are an important part of life on campus.
Last but not least, be on the lookout for the #FUSOrientation hashtag and sticker on the Franklin social media accounts. When posting photos, stories or videos from now and during Orientation week, please remember to tag Franklin and use the hashtag and stickers! At Franklin, we are honored to share this journey with all students and are especially excited to witness your experiences.
