This spring, Franklin University Switzerland is proud to present three master classes designed for student non-dancers and dancers alike as part of a broader program of dance education initiatives that will build over three semesters. The culmination will be part of the second edition of the Lugano Dance Festival in Spring/Summer 2024 hosted by LAC (Lugano Arte e Cultura). The master classes will be led by international choreographer Maria Bonzanigo of Compagnia Finzi Pasca, of which Bonzanigo is a co-founding member. Bonzanigo’s workshops promise a unique experience for students to learn experientially about what is known in Italian as Teatro della Carezza e di Gesto Invisibile (Theater of the Caress and Invisible Gesture), a philosophy of movement developed over 40 years of Finzi Pasca productions which inform the work of contemporary actors, acrobats, dancers, and theatrical technicians.

The title of Bonziago’s Dance Workshop Series, “Equilibrium,” draws inspiration from the important theme of wellbeing, which focuses on student mental and physical health. The first workshop will take place on the President’s Lawn at 13:00 on University Day, April 19. All students, faculty, and visitors are welcome to participate in this introductory and exploratory movement exercise. No prior dance or acting experience is necessary. Both codified and pedestrian movement have their place in the creative process as stress management is at the center of the movement study. The second and third workshops will take place during Graduation Week, on Thursday, May 18 and Friday, May 19 at 13:00. Bodily movement and dancing maintain and improve our quality of life: physical fitness, whole body activity, mind/body coordination, social engagement, and cooperation with others.

All bodies are welcome and encouraged to attend. Any questions or interest can be directed to Professors Ferrari and Trebici-Marin
