What an exciting time to study and work at Franklin with the start of our new President, Dr. Samuel Martín-Barbero, combined with the opening of the New C Residence Hall! We extend a hearty welcome to the more than 170 new students starting classes today who are now part of our community that values a sense of belonging through respect, compassion, and a culture of trust.

The University COVID Workgroup continues to closely monitor the epidemiological situation and will use the Community Update messages to announce new policies created in an effort to keep our community healthy and safe. As a reminder, the current COVID-19 Franklin policy is outlined below:

  • Individuals who develop flu-like symptoms are required to wear a mask.
  • Students who test positive for COVID-19 are expected to self-isolate for 5 days and until they are symptom free for 48 hours. Schedule COVID testing using this Swiss-wide testing site.
  • Students who test positive should submit their COVID-19 test result (Rapid or PCR) to medicalservices@fus.edu and to their professor to request to join class online.
  • Contact the Coordinator of Student Medical Services medicalservices@fus.edu for COVID reporting, health advice, and support.

We have many great events and activities scheduled for this semester and we are looking forward to seeing everyone come together and strengthen our community. Check out the University Calendar and the Franklin App for more details. Please plan to attend our Convocation Event on Tuesday, August 23 at 19.00/7.00pm in the auditorium. Before Convocation begins, First-Year students are invited to enjoy a free gelato (ice cream) from a local Gelato Truck as a welcome to the new academic year. Others will be able to pay for gelato. First-Year students are asked to come together with their FYS group and academic mentor during designated timeslots to avoid overcrowding. President Martín-Barbero invites our community to join him outside the auditorium for the annual tree planting ceremony immediately following the convocation.

All students are invited to attend the Involvement Fair on Wednesday, August 24 starting at 16.30/4.30pm at the Grotto to learn about student organizations and ways to be involved at Franklin. Information about the Tone Athletic Center (TAC) and recreational sport events as well as social, cultural, and educational activities can be found on the Franklin App.

Students are reminded that Swiss quiet hours start at 22.00/10.00pm every night and apply to all areas including sidewalks and walk-ways, the Sorengo church and school grounds, all campus buildings, and all off campus locations. Students who fail to abide by the quiet hour law could face legal consequences as well as on-campus judicial sanctions. Please respect our neighbors! Contact your RA, AM, or OM if you have questions about this requirement.
