Before moving to Franklin, he was a Research Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse. He holds a PhD in Politics from New York University and a MSc in Economic and Social Sciences from Bocconi University.
Giacomo studies how social institutions and networks affect political participation and conflict. His current work focuses on the politics of ethnic and linguistic boundaries in modern states and on social influence during and after violence. Methodologically, he is interested in combining design-based econometric analysis, data science, archival fieldwork, and experiments to test social scientific theories and enhance measurement. His research has been funded by the United Nations University-WIDER, the Institute for Humane Studies, and other institutions.
